We had an awesome 4th weekend. Adam and I hadn't realized how much we were in need of a relaxing weekend, but we felt much refreshed after the weekend. We kicked off the weekend with a dinner in our backyard. Adam got fresh scallops from the Goose (they were flown in that day!) which he grilled with a yummy seasoning. Addie loved them too and devoured them. We were joined by our friend Andy, whom we hadn't seen in quite a while. It was an ideal evening!
The next day we left early to attend the Brownsburg 4th of July parade. It is all-things Americana, complete with the high school marching band, red hat ladies on horses, shriners, and flying candy. Addie was intense about the whole thing. She didn't get upset, but there were no smiles, either. This was serious business. Like many new experiences for her, she was focused on figuring out what was going on and reporting to us on what she was seeing: "truck" "car" "horse", etc.
The Adler extended family came to town from southern Indiana for a "game day." The particular highlight for us was spending time with Great-Grandpa Adler.
Unfortunately my camera died seconds after arriving at the parade (a result of my foolishly leaving it "on" the previous evening), so the above is the only photo of the day. Notice the super-cute team America outfit, that Grammie made.
On the 4th we relaxed at home and had Grammie & P-pa join us for dinner. We took our lawn chairs over one block to Talbott Street, which the neighborhood closes every 4th for a block party. It was the perfect view of the Indy fireworks. We thought Addie would fall asleep, but she stayed awake for the whole thing, lifting her hands up in the air and "describing" the fireworks. It was a very late night for her, but required on the 4th.
More on other weekend activities in the next post...
